It’s no stretch of the imagination to think that many die-hard fans of New Girl have pictured themselves as the romantic opposite of one of the show’s characters or another at some point. But just as in real life, any given fan would be a better match for one person over another person, even if they are fictionsl

Astrology purports to tell people so many things about their lives, personalities and, of course, romantic possibilities. Thus, one way to determine a New Girl fan’s perfect pairing from the show’s cast of characters is to look to the stars and the information to be gleaned from the zodiac.

Aries: Aly Nelson

Aly is excited when Winston tries his color blind glasses in New Girl

As a firebrand herself, Aly will match an Aries’ energy, but her authoritative side will keep their passion in check. Aly keeps it real and will tell an Aries to toughen up when they need to hear it.

Aly is confident enough to keep up with an Aries and smart enough to put them in their place. There’s nobody else in the world of New Girl that would be a better fit for the sign’s spunkiness. She’ll keep an Aries’ life exciting with her stories from work, and the Aries will lead her to open up to them emotionally.

Taurus: Robby McFerrin

Robby is someone who will respect a Taurus’ comfort zone. His kindness will charm a Taurus, and his vulnerability will encourage them to be more vulnerable too.

A Taurus is enough of a mystery for both people in this pair. Robby is up front about his flaws and won’t be judgemental of a Taurus partner’s. A Taurus might be used to being the stable one in the relationship, but they would appreciate a partner who doesn’t make them question their loyalty. Robby and a Taurus will bring out the best in each other.

Gemini: Sam Sweeney

Whether a Gemini is feeling more “Jess” or “Katie” on a particular day, Doctor Sam can totally handle their changing personality. He won’t be too clingy for a Gemini, but he isn’t above a romantic gesture.

Since he’s a pediatric doctor and celebrated Bird Day with Winston, his softer side is hidden in plain sight. This would probably make it easy for a Gemini to be warm and open with him, which can sometimes be difficult for those born under the sign.

Cancer: Jessica Day

Cancers are used to being written off as over-emotional, and Jess would do anything but. Unlike the other characters, Jess would actually listen to a Cancer when their feelings are hurt and give them the advice they need to hear gently enough for them to actually hear it.

Far from fearing vulnerability, Jess actually craves it. She would encourage a Cancer to keep things fun, to see the brighter side of life, and to actually solve their problems rather than wallowing in them. A Cancer would be a refreshing break for Jess from her efforts to crack everyone’s shell, because a typical Cancer’s shell is already cracked.

Leo: Coach (Ernie)

Damon Wayans Jr. as Coach New Girl

Coach is the ultimate hype man. He won’t be embarrassed when a Leo gets loud — he’ll even match their energy — but he’s more interested in seeing the Leo shine than being the center of attention himself.

As a trainer, his entire career is based on making other people look good. What’s better person for a Leo than someone who will gas them up at every opportunity and make them into the best version of themselves? Coach is charismatic and does his own thing but would move across the country if the right Leo asked.

Virgo: Nick Miller

With his earthy charm and goofy charisma, Nick is the only guy on New Girl worth a Virgo’s time. Sure, his life is in total disarray, but that gives any potential partner a project, and Virgos love projects. And though he may be sloppy, but he’s certainly reliable, and that’s important to Virgos too.

Virgos are the only sign that’s level-headed enough to explain to Nick why he needs to change without giving in to his stubbornness. He needs a Virgo to clean up his life, and Virgos need someone like him to force them out of their comfort zone. Plus, he’s prepared for life’s curveballs and would totally survive the zombie apocalypse, something a Virgo might not see coming.

Libra: (Winston) Schmidt

Schmidt’s fiery passion would balance out a Libra’s cool, calm and collected demeanor. He will bring a Libra out of their shell and force them to take things seriously, mostly because he cannot take them any other way.

Schmidt could use someone that calms him down a little bit but appreciates when someone can keep him guessing. His predictable and vulnerable nature will force a Libra to settle a bit and face their emotions head-on. He definitely won’t bore a Libra, though, and his accidentally hilarious personality will keep them laughing.

Scorpio: Reagan

Megan Fox as Reagan New Girl

Reagan is the only character on New Girl that’s hot enough to grab a Scorpio’s attention and confident enough to keep it. Her aloofness will temper a Scorpio’s passion and force them to actually put in the work for once.

Since she’s always traveling for work, a Scorpio will probably keep things casual for a while before locking it down. This will train the Scorpio’s obsessive nature and force them to be patient, to grow things gradually. And if she’s only in town for the night, what better use for a Scorprio’s passion than a brief, torrid affair?

Sagittarius: CeCe Parekh

New Girl Cece on couch

There’s nothing a Sagittarius hates more than a clingy partner, and CeCe Parekh is anything but. She has her own thing going on and is in her own world but is definitely going to keep it real, just like a Sagittarius.

She might be a little flighty, but she is always there when the people closest to her need her. CeCe and a Sagittarius partner will each build their own empire and join forces when one or the other needs support.

Capricorn: Russell

Russell likes to keep it classy, and so do Capricorns. He’s the only character who’s going to give a Capricorn the lavish lifestyle they deserve, and it’s not just because of the Capricorn’s looks.

Capricorns are refined, level-headed and have ambitions of their own. They were born ready for the type of mature relationship that Russell has been looking for his whole life, but that’s hardly to say either of them are boring. Russell and a Capricorn partner will live the good life together, traveling the world in style.

Aquarius: Winston Bishop

New Girl Winston and Ferguson

Winston will understand the Aquarius weirdness and match it. He may seem normal at first, but the more an Aquarius gets to know him, the weirder that Winston becomes. His maze of quirks will fascinate an Aquarius and keep them on their toes, and so will his outlandish pranks.

An Aquarius will encourage him to indulge in his stranger side and be more up front with it, while he will teach them how to balance it out. He’ll understand an Aquarius but won’t shy away from an intimate moment, which will encourage them to do the same.

Pisces: Paul Genzlinger

New Girl Jess Paul

As the softest guy on New Girl, Paul will be sensitive to a Pisces’ mood swings and will never make them feel bad for being upset. With him, a Pisces can be open enough to get to the root of their feelings right away.

Just like a Pisces, Paul is also known for his playful side. His quirky interests such as musical theater and lute-playing will be endearing to a Pisces. He’s not afraid to be himself, and seeing how beloved he is by others will make a mercurial Pisces comfortable.
