TAMPA, Fla. – As the nation prepared to celebrate Women’s History Month, Katie Krimitsos had her own reason to celebrate. The Women’s Meditation Network, a network of podcasts she created in 2018, hit a major download milestone.

What You Need To Know

  • The Tampa-produced podcasts of the Women’s Meditation Network recently hit 40 million lifetime downloads
  • Host Katie Krimitsos said she created the podcasts to empower women
  • Podcast range from sleep and morning meditations to topics like “over thinking” and “information detox”
  • Krimitsos says the episodes, recorded in her closet, have drawn listeners from around the world

“It doesn’t always equate to an actual person because the person might listen every single night. They might listen to a couple different episodes,” Krimitsos said when asked about listener numbers. “But as of right now, we just hit a milestone for 40 million lifetime downloads over five different shows.”

Those shows include “Meditation for Women,” “Sleep Meditations,” and “Morning Meditations”. Individual episodes focus on a variety of topics, from overthinking to information detox to one guided meditation titled, “When You Have Nothing Left to Give.”

“I have always had such a deep desire to allow every individual to feel relatable. We all have these emotions. We all have these struggles,” said Krimitsos.

The idea for the first podcast came months before Krimitsos actually decided to do it.

“I just said, ‘Okay, well, I don’t have any meditation credentials,'” she said. “I’m a practitioner of meditation. I’ve used it since I was 18 years old, very imperfectly and very seasonally – sometimes every single day, and sometimes not for months. But I’ve used it, I love it, and I believe in it. So, I was like, ‘Let me just give it a shot.'”

Krimitsos writes all of her meditations, sometimes inspired by suggestions from her daughters, Sedona, 6, and Savannah, 3. She records episodes from her closet.

“It’s actually incredible for acoustics because the clothes and everything kind of take away all the sound, all the reverb,” she said.

It didn’t take long for her to see there was a demand for this type of content. Krimitsos said within three months, her first show’s monthly download numbers were at a place it took her former podcast five or six years to reach. She said she saw that increase during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. She remembers something her husband, Chris, who’s also in podcasting, told her in the early days of the shutdowns.

“He’s like, ‘People need a lot more of what you have right now,'” she said. “And so, I would just look at the statistics, and right away, you know, download numbers were going up more, and more people were listening. So, I, in turn, immediately was like, ‘How can I help more? What do they need? What do they need more of?'”

Krimitsos said she went from producing one show a week to as many as four or five.

While anyone can listen to the podcasts, Krimitsos said there are two reasons she wanted to target them to women. For one, she said there was a gap in the market. As for the other reason, Krimitsos said she always knew she wanted her work to help women.

“I have just always felt very passionate about giving women, from the inside out, a sense of, ‘I get to create my own life,'” she said.

More is on the way from the Women’s Meditation Network. Krimitsos said she has ideas for other podcasts, including “Morning Affirmations” and “Sleep Stories.” She said listeners will have to stay tuned.

The network’s podcasts are accessible for free and can be found wherever you download your podcasts. Krimitsos suggests searching “meditation for women”.
