You can’t wear gemstone on any finger of your choice. As per Vedic astrology, each ratna or gemstone is designated to be worn on a particular finger for auspicious results. If you don’t wear them as described in astrology they might not give you desired results and the gemstones won’t be able to help you with the concerned planet. Know the right way to wear ratna and the designated finger for each of the navratnas.

Thumb

The thumb is said to represent willpower. It is believed that wearing a ring on this finger brings important changes in one’s life. Ruby or garnet are suggested for the thumb.

Index finger

The index finger represents leadership and power. Blue topaz, sapphire, opal and diamond are advised to be worn on this finger. Mount Venus is believed to be under it and thus wearing these could be auspicious. Apart from this, astrologers believe that to remove the ill effects of Ketu, one can wear Lahsuniya on their index finger.

Middle finger

It is believed that the middle finger is a reflection of a person’s personality. The one who wears quartz, amethyst and coral on this finger can successfully strike a  balance in life. Wearing the right gem on this finger can also help in distinguishing right from wrong. If you have Shani Mahadasha on you, then onyx can be worn to overcome the ill effect.

Ring finger

While we all know that the engagement ring is worn on this finger, one can wear gold, silver, diamond, jade, moonstone and ruby for auspicious results. Love, peace and optimism are what this finger represents.

Little finger

A little finger is known to represent relationships. For better marital and business relationships gemstones are worn on this finger. If your moon is in mahadasha wear a pearl on this finger. however, if you have Mercury’s mahadasha go for an emerald stone.
