The tenth season of One Found Sound, the inventive conductor-free orchestra based in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, shines a spotlight on several lesser-known composers, including the early 20th century African American pioneer Herbert Franklin Mells.

The upcoming program, though, introduces audiences to Estevan Olmos, a student at Cal State Fresno who won the group’s Emerging Composer Award. Olmos will hear the world premiere of “Mi Cultura Lejana” (“My Distant Culture”), a meditation on the loss of Mexican traditions over successive generations.

Also on the program is music by Michael Gilbertson, the San Francisco composer who was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, as well as works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Gabriela Lena Frank.
