Only a short drive from Dublin city and within walking distance of the nearby Dunboyne village, the newly reimagined Seoíd Spa at Dunboyne Castle Hotel offers guests a quiet escape from the demands of busy city life – and with several new treatments added to their repertoire, now is as good a time as any to book in for a visit.
Hidden away on the basement level of the hotel, the spa itself is far removed from the noise and excitement of upper floors. A warm, dimly-lit haven of amber light, it’s ambient and aesthetic in equal measure, with soothing music setting the tone from the moment you step into reception.
Back open to the public after what was a very tough few months, the team’s passion for what they do is palpable. Getting its name from the Irish word meaning “gem”, the place has been carefully designed as an oasis of calm, but the shiny bells and whistles are more than just nice to look at and are intrinsic in helping guests completely switch off while there.
Arriving at the spa armed with glowing reviews from friends and colleagues who had previously visited, complete relaxation was the order of the day and I’m happy to report that Seoíd didn’t disappoint. Equipped with detailed knowledge of both the products and services on offer, I booked in to try the hot stone massage – my first ever!
An hour-long treatment of pure indulgence, it relies on the penetrating heat of volcanic basalt stones which are placed on key energy points on the body to help you drift off into dreamland… and that I most certainly did. In fact, one hour seemed more like 10 minutes – a testament to just how soothing the combination of gentle pressure and warm oiled stones can be when used correctly. 60 minutes later and I practically floated out of the room, a brand-new, knot-free version of myself.
However, aside from all the usual favourites, the team has also upgraded their offering to feature a number of new treatments – with recent additions ranging from ancient bathing rituals to crystal experiences and mud baths. Created to give visitors a fully holistic experience centred on wellbeing from the inside out, the new treatments take inspiration from all corners of the globe and tie in nicely with Seoíd’s existing services which range from specialised facials (using IMAGE skincare products) to body wraps, scrubs, manicures and pedicures amongst other things.

Hamman Ritual
The Hamman Ritual – an ancient bathing ritual for a feeling of purification – takes place in the gorgeous Rasul Mud Chamber, and begins once guests lie down on a warm ceramic table for an invigorating full-body exfoliation. This is followed by a full-body super-hydrating foam massage, which guests can enjoy solo or share with friends as there are two beds in the room.
Using muds infused with essential oils and minerals, the Rasul Mud Chamber fills with aromatic steam which helps to soften and rejuvenate skin. Dry heat then intensifies the mud, before it’s washed away to leave you feeling completely refreshed.
Seoíd Crystal Experience
Another newly-introduced treatment to Seoíd’s list of specialities, the Crystal Experience is aimed at those looking to get in touch with their inner power and healing energy. Focusing on both the physical and mental side of things, crystals are placed on and around the body, directing energy to the points where it is needed most, to bring balance and serenity.
Sabbia Med Beach Experience
Finally, the Sabbia Med Beach Experience promises to transport guests to the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean via a virtual beach as you recline on the heated sand and are brought from sunshine to sunset in 30 minutes. Flooding your body with serotonin, a.k.a. the “happy hormone”, this treatment is particularly welcome after the long, cold days of winter and helps to stimulate the production of Vitamin D to strengthen the immune system.
After a few trips to the spa, things can start to feel a little bit “samey” for want of a better word. That’s not to say that all the traditional offerings aren’t enjoyable, but with an array of new treatments – inspired by spas around the world – Seoíd definitely brings something different to the table. And that’s without even mentioning their luxury hydrotherapy pool, heated loungers, sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub.
