Doha: Mandarin Oriental, Doha celebrates its Oriental heritage with the launch of three set menus at Liang Restaurant for Chinese New Year 2023 – Year of the Rabbit available from Thursday, January 19 to Sunday, February 5.

Chinese New Year is known as the holiday of new beginnings, reunion dinners with loved ones and Spring Festival celebrations in China. Choose from three set menus serving dishes with auspicious symbolism believed to be ‘Lucky Food’ that bring good luck for the coming year.

The menu includes a traditional ‘Louhei’ Ceremony known as the prosperity salad which is a sharing dish prepared only for the Spring Festival celebration in China to share with family and friends.

In addition to three celebratory set menus named Abundance Harvest, Joyful and Blooming Prosperity each serving 6-courses of traditional dishes. The menu highlights include Golden Black Shrimp Dumpling, Deep-fried Duck Puff, Double-boiled Treasure Soup, Scallops with XO Sauce, Steamed Turbot Fish Fillet and two desserts believed to bring long-lasting happiness.

As part of the authentic journey of Liang, guests can enjoy witnessing a traditional performance known as ‘Kung Fu tea’ performed by certified Tea Master Yan Yangchun. Kung Fu tea originated in the Sichuan province as a way to pour hot water in crowded tea houses.

Tea Master Yan has been a practicing certified tea master for two years and trained under the mentorship of well-respected teachers. The performance combines sequenced choreography and martial arts while using a traditional long-spouted teapot to pour steaming water onto tea leaves and this process is believed to maximise the flavour and aroma.

The Year of the Rabbit runs from January 22, 2023 to February 9, 2024 and is predicted to be a year of hope.

The Rabbit is the fourth sign in Chinese astrology and it is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity. The element attached to this year’s Rabbit is water, which provides fluidity, calmness and nourishment.

The Chinese New Year menu at Liang is available from Thursday, January 19 to Sunday, February 5, 2023 for lunch from 12pm to 3pm and dinner 6pm to 11pm.

The Abundance Harvest is priced at QR428 per person, Joyful is priced at QR488 per person and both require a minimum of 2 persons and Blooming Prosperity at QR688 per person for a minimum of 4 persons.
